The Original PC Engine (White) and the CoreFrafx 1 & 2 are awesome consoles, but they have one major design flaw which is the Chunky Grey Ribbon Cables that connect the Motherboard to the Cartridge Slot PCB.

Overtime, the Original Grey Ribbon Cables can break / lose connection / break away from the motherboard when opening the console to perform mods or maintenance.

With this simple to install kit, you can future proof your console from this design flaw and also add extra space inside the console for more awesome mods.

Also, we will be releasing a small add-on board to go with this kit to make your console region free with a flick of a switch!

Installation Instructions

Step 1: Console Dissasembly
1. Remove the 4 GameBit screws from the bottom of the console.

2. Remove the 3 Philips screws from the Card Slot board and remove.

Step 2: Preparing / Installing Kit
1. Remove the original Grey ribbon cable from the Motherboard by either desoldering it or rocking it back and forward until it breaks off.

2. Align the "Mainboard EXT PORT" kit board with the pins / holes on the Motherboard and flow solder into the holes as shown.

3. Remove the other end of the original Grey ribbon cable from the Card Slot Board by either desoldering it or rocking it back and forward until it breaks off.

4. Align the "Card Slot" kit board with the pins / holes on the Card Slot Board and flow solder into the holes as shown.

Step 3: Installing RibbonFixer Kit WITHOUT Region Free Add-on Board.

1. Connect ONE of the ends of the included 100mm Ribbon Cable into the slot that's on the "Card Slot" board with the BLUE TAB facing upwards.

2. Insert the Card Slot PCB back into the shell and screw back in place with the 3 screws as shown below.

3. Connect the other end of the included ribbon cable into the slot that's on the "Motherboard EXT Board" with the BLUE TAB facing upwards.

4. Test before reassembly, If the game is not booting, the test for continuity and resolder to make sure everything is connected correctly.

5. Re-assemble and Enjoy!

Step 4: Installing RibbonFixer Kit WITH Region Free Add-on Board.

1. Connect ONE of the ends of the included Shorter Ribbon Cable into the slot that's on the "Card Slot" board with the BLUE TAB facing upwards.

2. Insert the Card Slot PCB back into the shell and screw back in place with the 3 screws as shown below.

3.Mount the Region Free Add-On Board with double sided tape and insert the ribbon cable with the BLUE TAB facing upwards.

8. Connect the Region Free Add-On Board using the Longer Ribbon Cable to the slot that's on the "Motherboard EXT Board" with the BLUE TAB facing upwards

4. There as 3 solder pads on the Region Free Add-On Board for a switch to switch between PCE and TG16 mode. Find a suitable location to mount a switch and solder the 3 required wires.

5. Locate the chip HuC6280, Lift the pin 29 and connect it to a ground point using thin wire.

6. Test before reassembly, If the game is not booting, the test for continuity and resolder to make sure everything is connected correctly.

7. Re-assemble and Enjoy!
